Sturgis, S.D. (KEVN) - The city of Sturgis pulled off an April Fool’s Day prank on the yearly visitors who come to its famed motorcycle rally.

The newly announced, “Running of the Buffalo” event is nothing more than horseplay, and will not take place down Legendary Main Street this summer, or ever.

Supposedly inspired by Spain’s traditional, “Running of the Bulls,” the safety of the event-goers and the animals is said to have been called into concern.

The city jokingly quoted a Mr. Scott Peterson of the Hamster’s Motorcycle Club as excited to add a new layer of Euro-Americana flair to the Sturgis Rally. Peterson is said to have noted motorcyclists’ general habit of always wearing helmets as part of his comfort with the rowdy event.

The event was planned during today’s April 1st Bike Rally townhall meeting.
