South Dakota Magazine highlights rare phenomena
Fens, travel planner, and tourist attractions along the way
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) -The Black Hills is home to a lot of interesting things. Katie Hunoff, owner of South Dakota Magazine, highlights just a few of them in their newest edition.
Hunoff said “Exploring the unique phenomena of fens. There is one in the Black Hills and it’s highlighted in our new issue.” Fens, according to Webster’s dictionary, are “wetland with alkaline, neutral, or only slightly acid peaty soil” which South Dakota has only a few. A unique but special ecological additive to an already diverse landscape.
Hunoff said “We feature some roadside attractions in this issue that have lasted the test of time. But we also show some that people might remember that are no longer in existence.”
And if you’re not already busy looking up interesting geological features and popular road attractions, Hunoff said “our travel planner is great to find unique ways to spend time in SD.”
There’s always something to do in the Black Hills and with resources like S.D. Magazine you’ll never run out of ideas.
