Woman dead after tree falls on RV, starts fire during winter storm
PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV/Gray News) - One woman was killed and another person was injured when a tree fell onto an RV and started a fire as winter weather moved through Oregon.
The incident was reported on Jan. 13 in the 5300 block of Southeast 105th Avenue, according to Portland Fire and Rescue.
Neighbors in the area said the power went out around 2 p.m. They described hearing a tree crack and then shouting outside.
“I hear somebody screaming, ‘Get out, get out,’ and, ‘We need help,’” Juan Uribe said. “My son called 911. Twenty minutes later, the fire department showed up.”
Portland Fire and Rescue said when crews arrived, they found multiple downed power lines and the RV engulfed in flames.
“I know three people live in that trailer,” Uribe said.
According to Portland Fire and Rescue, one person was injured and taken to a hospital. After the flames were extinguished, crews found the body of a woman in her 30s who had been trapped when the tree fell. She died inside the RV.
Two others were uninjured.
A fire investigator determined the fire spread from a stove being used to heat the RV when the tree crashed into the vehicle.
Neighbors said the power was out for hours after fire crews left the scene.
