Officials investigating cause of gas pipeline explosion
DARROUZETT, Texas (KFDA/Gray News) - Officials are assessing the damage caused by a gas pipeline explosion in the Oklahoma panhandle.
According to a statement from Phillips 66, a rupture in a natural gas pipeline occurred at about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, north of Darrouzett, Texas, on the Oklahoma side of the Texas-Oklahoma border. The affected section of the pipeline was shut down, and several fire crews worked to put out the massive fire.
Phillips 66 reported the fire had been put out by Wednesday morning.
No injuries were reported, and Phillips 66 said there were no health threats to the surrounding neighborhoods.
According to the Elmwood Fire Department, about 13 miles of the pipeline have to be drained because of the rupture.
The area surrounding the rupture has been temporarily shut down to the public as officials work to assess the damage and investigate the cause of the explosion.
