Trump facing significant legal decisions in two New York cases
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - Major developments are expected in the legal saga of former President Donald Trump at the end of this week. Two days, two courthouses, and two monumental decisions are expected in lower Manhattan. Thursday Donald Trump is set to arrive at the New York Supreme Criminal Court which could result in the first ever criminal trial date set for a former president. Friday the future of Trump’s business empire in New York hangs in the balance with a civil fraud trial verdict expected.
In the criminal trial regarding the former president making alleged hush money payments his lawyers are asking for the case to be thrown out. Judge Juan Merchan is expected to rule on that and other pretrial issues Thursday, before potentially setting a date to begin the trial - one of four criminal trials Trump faces.
He is charged with allegedly falsifying business records to send payments to suppress potentially damaging information regarding alleged extramarital affairs.
Friday could bring a verdict in Trump’s civil fraud trial regarding his family business. New York’s Attorney General Letisha James is asking Judge Arthur Engoron to penalize Trump hundreds of millions of dollars for inflating his assets to obtain favorable treatment from banks and insurance companies.
Trump maintains his innocence in all of his legal cases. He continues to claim, without basis, that they are all part of a Democrat-constructed witch hunt, trying to damage his candidacy. The next 48 hours could be significant for Donald Trump the businessman and Donald Trump the presidential candidate.
