CLEVELAND (WOIO/Gray News) - The mother at the center of the killing of a 5-year-old this week has been charged and booked into jail Sunday, according to authorities.

Police said 48-year-old Pammy Maye was booked into the Cuyahoga County Jail Sunday around 5 p.m.

She was charged with murder, child endangerment and kidnapping, the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office said.

Maye is charged in connection with the slaying of 5-year-old Darnell Taylor. Maye was the legal guardian of Darnell at the time of his death.

The Amber Alert issued at 3 a.m. Wednesday for Darnell was canceled as of 6:54 a.m. Friday.

Brooklyn police said they arrested Maye around 9:30 p.m. Thursday after a business owner reported a woman walking suspiciously around a building.

Officials said they received a 911 call in which the caller said Maye was “distraught and crying.”

She was treated at a Cleveland hospital directly after her arrest.

Police learned the location of Darnell’s body after interviewing Maye.

Darnell’s biological grandmother spoke out against the system that kept her grandson in Maye’s care Saturday.

She said she hopes police and the courts can bring justice for Darnell’s death.
