RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - The Sheridan community was joined Friday by law enforcement officers from across the nation to celebrate the life of Sergeant Nevada Krinkee, a police officer who was shot and killed on Feb. 13, while serving the community.

Officers from all over the country are gathered in Sheridan to attend Sergeant Nevada Krinkee’s celebration of life ceremony. Before the ceremony, Chief of Police Travis Koltiska talked about the community’s strength since the tragedy occurred weeks ago.

“Been an extremely difficult and trying time for not only this department but this whole entire community a tragedy like this really rocks your core and you don’t understand it. Sergeant Krinkee was an amazing individual he was an amazing officer, an amazing husband, and an amazing father and he’s going to be very very missed in this department and in this community,” Chief Koltiska said.

The ceremony started around noon when hundreds of cop cars from different jurisdictions caravanned from the Sheridan Police Department to the service at Sheridan College. Community members who couldn’t attend, gathered on the streets to watch the procession, many of whom were overcome with emotion.

“It’s incredible to see all the officers that showed, yeah very overwhelming.” community member Jennifer Colvo said.

“Yeah, just knowing that they came from so many different states to support our small town,” community member Desiree Pearce said.

With Sergeant Krinkee’s death being the first on-duty death of an officer in Sheridan... the support from others showed the town that they were not alone in this loss.

“It is the first one and a really unfortunate situation so knowing that not only do we have our small town community support for our law enforcement officers but they come from far and wide,” said Pearce.

Chief Koltiska said officers have come from as far as New York to pay their respects to Sergeant Krinkee and he applauds the community for being strong during such a difficult time.
