RUSHVILLE, Ill. (WGEM/Gray News) - Three children and two adults were killed Monday in a crash involving a school bus and semitruck, according to Illinois State Police.

Police said the crash happened at 11:36 a.m. on U.S. Route 24 at Parkview Road in Schuyler County.

The Schuyler-Industry bus was traveling west on U.S. Route 24 and crossed over into the eastbound lane for an unknown reason before hitting the semitruck, which was carrying sand, police said.

Both vehicles were engulfed in flames.

Three children, the bus driver and the semitruck driver all died in the crash, according to officials.

Illinois State Police identified the victims as 72-year-old David Coufal, 57-year-old Angela Spiker, 5-year-old Maria Miller, 3-year-old Andrew Miller and 3-year-old Noah Driscoll.

Schuyler-Industry Schools officials said they will not be in session on Tuesday or Wednesday, and counselors will be available to students and faculty.

U.S. Route 24 near Illinois Route 103 was closed during the crash investigation.
