WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - House GOP leaders are taking time away from Washington, D.C. to discuss and formulate a winning strategy this election season.

Republicans hold the slimmest majority in the House, with that majority getting even thinner as Colorado Representative Ken Buck announced he’s retiring within days.

Despite the setbacks, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is optimistic more help is on the way.

“The American people can be reminded; you do have an ultimate check and that’s the election system,” Speaker Johnson said. “You can vote in a new administration, new majorities, and senate. New house majority with a new President. Vote in a team with a new perspective.”

Congresswoman Erin Houchin (R-IN) believes the key to conservative wins is having the right stance on issues impacting Americans.

“On issues like inflation and the border, which are the two most frequent issues I hear about in my district in Indiana, it’s Republicans who I hear that Americans trust the most to solve these problems,” Rep. Houchin said.

Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH) said winning elections starts with having the right person in the race.

“It’s having the right candidates,” Rep. Latta said. “I believe they have been out recruiting the right candidates.”

Dysfunction in the House GOP has slowed business in congress since last fall. Rep. Latta said he believes a retreat is the best way to get everyone back on the same page.

“This is what we call family discussions, it’s good because it gives everyone the opportunity to speak,” Rep. Latta said. “We aren’t trying to stifle anyone’s opinions because it’s important to have that free flow of information going back and forth essential to making sure our house conference works. "

Until the November election, Republicans are hoping to execute a strategy to win back the White House, take Back the Senate and gain more ground in the House.
