WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - House Republicans are congregating in West Virginia this week to discuss national problems and solutions at the Republican Issues Conference.

House leadership plans to tackle a wide range of issues, most importantly, national security.

“Lets take care of America first,” Speaker Mike Johnson said. “What I mean by that is not a bumper sticker slogan. It’s difficult to explain to some around the country that were securing the border of a European nation when our own border is wide open.”

Nebraska Congressman Don Bacon said he believes his party can get on the same page about national security soon. His main priority is the border, followed by supporting allies overseas.

“The President has the authority right now to take action to secure our border,”Bacon said. “Taiwan is owed about $2 billion of weapons from America. We are not putting any of our forces in Ukraine. They are doing the fighting. If we don’t give them military aid, the Russians will be in Kiev by the end of the year.”

Both Speaker Johnson and Bacon say the tough conversations on uniting the party and improving the country have begun. They are looking forward to tackling more issues this week.
