STURGIS, S.D. (KEVN) - The City of Sturgis is looking at hosting its first ever AMA Flat Track Race, hoping to bring a younger demographic to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

The hope is that the televised race will sustain the rally for years to come, but not everyone is on board with holding the race.

Petitions were submitted to the city to put the council’s decision to hold the race to a public vote and the council will take up that process Monday night.

That brings up questions of what happens if the city does not host the race.

“The city knows there are consequences to not hosting this race because, you know, the item that was referred talks about the signing of the agreement to host the event. So, you know there are consequences to what happens during the election,” said Deb Holland, communications director for the City of Sturgis.

If you would like to watch the meeting, you can find it on the City of Sturgis Facebook page, or click here.
