Cooler for the rest of the week, plus the latest on our weekend snow chances
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Clouds will increase overnight as low temperatures fall into the 20s for many. Morning clouds will give way to afternoon sunshine Wednesday and temperatures will climb into the 40s and 50s for many, but the warmest air will be in Wyoming with highs near 60°.
Highs will remain in the 40s and 50s Thursday with increasing cloud cover. A cold front will usher in rain and snow showers Thursday afternoon. It will also get breezy, too. Friday will be much colder as highs will only reach the 30s. Expect plenty of clouds and the chance for some snow showers.
There is the potential for some snowfall this weekend. Uncertainty remains rather high as of right now, but over the past couple of days the models have been showing similar trends. The first low pressure will form in Utah and Wyoming and bring rain and snow showers to the area Saturday. This will change over to snow Saturday night and possibly into Sunday. This will be our best shot at picking up moisture.
A second low pressure forms in the southern Rockies and will steal much of the moisture. This will keep the rain and snow farther south and east into portions of Kansas, Nebraska, eastern South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa. Both the American and European models have picked up on this over the past couple of days.
While this is the current trend, it isn’t set in stone. There’s still plenty of time for the data to change. Be sure to check back here through the rest of the week, or watch for the latest on our newscasts.
