1-year-old boy fatally struck by car while playing in parking lot, police say

TEXARKANA, Texas (KSLA/Gray News) - A 1-year-old child who was just days short of his second birthday was struck and killed by a vehicle on Thursday afternoon.

The fatal incident happened at about 2 p.m. in the parking lot of Magnolia Garden Apartments in Texarkana, Texas, according to police.

Texarkana police said the boy was wandering around the parking lot when a driver accidentally hit the 1-year-old.

The driver then called Texarkana police and told officials he did not see the child until it was too late.

Police said they are unsure how the child got out into the parking lot but said they think the 1-year-old was without supervision.

Tensions were initially high while the child’s family was at the scene.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to this family,” police said on social media.
