Walmart customer shot by former employee during argument at store, police say
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC/Gray News) - A man shopping at a Memphis-area Walmart has been critically injured after a shooting occurred inside the store on Friday.
WMC reports police were called to the Walmart located on Germantown Parkway and Trinity Road after witnesses reported multiple shots were fired around 2:15 p.m.
Officers said the shooting was between a male customer and a former Walmart employee after the two got into an argument.
According to Memphis police, the shopper was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. They said the shooting appeared to be a targeted incident.
Authorities said the man was with his young son and brother when he was shot four times.
The suspected shooter left the area in a black Mazda SUV. Police said that person was armed but didn’t believe there was any further danger to the public.
Memphis police said Walmart followed protocols to keep other customers and employees safe following the shooting.
“The safety of our associates and customers is our top priority. We will work closely with local law enforcement through the course of their investigation and refer any additional questions to them,” a Walmart spokesperson said.
Police did not immediately release a description or identify the suspected shooter.
