RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Ozempic is a prescription drug used to treat diabetes and helps to lower A1C levels. However, one of the side effects of the drug is weight loss, which has made it very popular across the nation.

This has led to a shortage of the drug, causing difficulties for diabetic patients who rely on it monthly.

Dr. Douglas Lehmann of Complete Health explains that even being off the drug for a few months can lead to complications. Restarting the drug requires patients to start at a much lower dose and can sometimes cause patients to become ill.

In addition to diabetic patients, people suffering from obesity, sleep apnea, or high blood pressure are also affected by the drug shortage.
