‘It was very gruesome’: 7-year-old girl witnesses double homicide
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV/Gray News) - A 7-year-old witnessed a double homicide outside of an apartment in Nashville, Tennessee.
Police say 17-year-old Camron McGlothen and his 18-year-old roommate were shot “multiple times” outside of an apartment building on Sunday afternoon.
The 18-year-old died at the scene, and McGlothen died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
“Police were everywhere. Tape was everywhere. Blood was everywhere. Bodies were lying out on the ground. It was very gruesome,” neighbor Shevon Kelly said.
Kelly says her 7-year-old daughter was playing outside when the shooting happened.
“When I finally got to her, she was screaming and crying, and the other two girls were crying. And they had witnessed pretty much everything from the car pulling up to a guy getting out with a gun. They heard one gunshot, and they took off running,” Kelly said.
Police said they believe there were three suspects involved with the murders. One of them was wearing a ski mask when they shot the two, according to police.
“One of the officers had told me yesterday, she said my daughter had an angel watching over her because bullets went everywhere,” Kelly said.
Kelly said that while they were not hurt, they are not sticking around and will look for a new place to live.
“I know this could happen anywhere, but your home is supposed to be your safe place. If anyone can come and just start shooting in broad open daylight, that tells me that people really don’t care,” Kelly said.
Even though police say it was a targeted shooting, with no suspects in custody, both Kelly and her daughter say they’ve been unable to sleep.
“Just to see people lying on the ground, lifeless and that people’s lives that have been taken. I mean, I’m speechless. I don’t have any more words,” Kelly said.
