Plenty of moisture on tap this weekend
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Enjoy one more warm day with temperatures in the 60s and 70s. Scattered cloud cover is expected today and it will be breezy. Gusts up to 50 mph will be possible on the South Dakota plains. The strong winds and mild air have caused fire danger ratings to range from very high to extreme across the South Dakota grasslands.
A storm system will move in this weekend bringing snow to the Big Horn mountains by Saturday morning. Showers and a few storms will move into western South Dakota and northeast Wyoming by Saturday afternoon. Rain and snow will be likely Saturday night and into Sunday.
A Winter Storm Watch is in place for the Black Hills and Campbell County for the potential of significant snowfall. Winter Storm Warnings are in place across the Big Horns. Expect difficult travel and windy conditions with gusts up to 50 mph at times.
Warmer air will return next week with temperatures climbing into the 50s and 60s by Tuesday. We could even flirt with 70° late next week and that following weekend.
