Plenty of rain and snow expected into Monday
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Rain and snow will continue overnight. Windy conditions are expected across Wyoming with gusts up to 55 mph at times. In western South Dakota and the Black Hills winds will not be as strong, but gusts up to 35 mph are likely. Some snow could reach communities in the foot hills bringing a light accumulation, but rain will return during the daytime. Winds will remain strong in Wyoming and breezy across South Dakota.
Winter Storm Warnings are in place for the Black Hills, northeast Wyoming and the Bighorns until Monday. Travel will be very difficult in these locations due to the heavy snow and strong winds. Avoid travel at all costs, if possible.
Rain and snow showers will linger into Monday, but the moisture will be much lighter than what we are expecting over the weekend. Accumulations will be the highest in the Bighorns, northeast Wyoming and the Black Hills. Snow totals toward Lead and Gillette will range from 12″-18″. Lesser amounts are expected toward the Custer area and little to no accumulations are expected on the South Dakota plains.
Temperatures will warm up into next week with highs in the 50s likely for many. By Friday, Rapid City could reach 70° for the first time this year.
