Mild and breezy today; breezy and warmer Wednesday

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Today will be similar to Monday - sunshine and breezy, but the winds won’t be quite as strong. Still, expect 15 to 25 mile per hour winds on the plains today, with occasional gusts to 35 miles per hour.

Winds become southerly Wednesday and temperatures will warm significantly with highs in the 70s expected. These southerly winds will usher in low level moisture Thursday, resulting in afternoon showers and thunderstorms. At this time, it appears the threat of any severe thunderstorms will remain south of the area.

Windy, showery, cooler weather can be expected Friday through the weekend as low pressure moves northeast into eastern South Dakota. The heaviest, steadiest rain will likely be just east and southeast of the area.

Warmer and drier weather returns early next week.
