OAK HARBOR, Ohio (WTVG/Gray News) - Residents in northwest Ohio were awestruck by what they saw in the sky on Thursday.

Video captured in Oak Harbor shows a rainbow-colored swirl in the clouds.

The 13 First Alert Weather team said it was likely what is called cloud iridescence.

Tiny ice crystals in the cloud diffract the sunlight, which caused a spectrum of colors to be visible.

It’s similar to how rainbows form, but it’s instead happening due to a very thin, high-level cirrus cloud.
