South Dakota Mines President announces retirement

Dr. Lance Roberts, the current provost and vice president of academic affairs will serve as the interim president.

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - South Dakota Mines President announces his retirement from his leadership role. Dr. Jim Rankin has served as president for six years. Rankin attended and graduated from the South Dakota Mines with an electrical engineering degree.

He was also a vice provost at the University of Arkansas and served in leadership roles at Ohio University.

Dr. Rankin returned to his alma mater as the 19th president and took the initiative to increase student retention and graduation rates.

“It has been a privilege to serve as president of South Dakota Mines,” Rankin said. “I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together, and I am confident that the university will continue to thrive and be a leader in the state and the nation for years to come.”

Dr. Lance Roberts, the current provost and vice president of academic affairs will serve as the interim president. A search for the next president will commence later this summer.
