‘I will miss you’: Dog surrendered to animal shelter with heartbreaking note
GREENVILLE, S.C. (WHNS/Gray News) - An animal shelter in South Carolina doesn’t know why a 3-year-old dog was surrendered to them, but they believe he was well-loved based on the heartbreaking note he came with.
The black and white pup named Rhoudy was transferred to Greenville Humane Society from a partner shelter with a bed, toys and a handwritten note from a child.
“We love you Rhoudy,” the note says. “I will miss you but your [sic] going home! And I hope your people love you as much as I do.”
The note included a drawing of Rhoudy, decorated with red hearts.
The Greenville Humane Society wants whoever wrote the bittersweet note to know they are taking good care of Rhoudy.
“We know how hard it was to say goodbye,” the shelter said in a Facebook post. “But you were so brave and so strong. Sometimes hard decisions have to be made, but he knows how much you love him.”
The shelter is now looking for a family who will love Rhoudy as much as the child who wrote this note.
“He will find a person to love him just as much as you do,” the Greeneville Humane Society said. “That’s a promise we will make to you. Just promise that you will always love him. Promise that you’ll always remember the happy times you had with him.”
Details about why Rhoudy was surrendered in the first place are unknown.
“We aren’t sure of why he was originally surrendered, but we wanted to reassure the little ones that love him so much know we’ll take such good care of him,” the shelter said.
