Husband strangles wife in her hospital bed, officials say
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV/Gray News) - A woman in Missouri died over the weekend after authorities said she was strangled by her husband while in the hospital.
Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said the woman was in a hospital in Independence to get a new port for dialysis.
According to court documents, the woman was lying in a hospital bed when her husband, Ronnie Wiggs, began choking her.
The documents accuse Wiggs of covering his wife’s nose and mouth so she couldn’t scream and ultimately causing her death.
Wiggs later told police he couldn’t take care of her or afford the medical bills.
He was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and is being held on a $250,000 bond.
