Kids fishing in small lake reel in human leg, police say
RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT/Gray News) - Officials in Mississippi are investigating after a human leg was found in a small lake Sunday.
Flowood Police Chief Eric Zetterholm said a group of kids were fishing at the old Primos Lake in Rankin County, where an old mine is located.
WLBT reports the area is restricted with “No Trespassing” signs clearly displayed.
While fishing, one of the kids’ lure snagged a human leg that had a sock on it, police said.
The police chief said the kids immediately called police when they pulled in the leg.
Investigators said more bones were found in the lake on Monday. They are continuing to search for more remains.
The Rankin County Coroner was at the location Sunday. He said he would take the leg to the medical examiner’s office to start a DNA process and hopefully identify the person.
The chief said the leg was mostly bone, suggesting it had been in the water for a while.
