RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) -

Overnight tonight, temperatures make it into the low 40s in Rapid City, but that is not the main story of the night as we will see winds that could be dangerous. Sustained winds up to 45 mph are possible as we head into the overnight hours with wind gusts possibly exceeding the 70 mph point, putting it closer and closer to hurricane force wind gusts. Tomorrow, we are going to see on and off showers throughout the day with winds still whipping up to 30 mph and gusting over 50 mph in most locations. There are wind alerts posted for much of the area. The darker shaded region shows the high wind warning that goes into effect at 6 pm tonight and extends to 6 pm tomorrow evening. Winds sustained up to 45 with gusts up to 70. Damage to property is a possibility throughout the overnight hours and some might have some difficulty traveling throughout the day. Future wind gusts look to peak at around midnight for most folks with up to 70 mph gusts possible. Those brightest colors are gusts exceeding 70 mph. The winds stay strong through the day tomorrow with gusts still over 50 mph possible all day long. Breezy conditions last Wednesday and Thursday to cap off this wind event. There are also winter weather alerts posted for a few regions. The Wyoming Black Hills have a winter weather advisory in effect for locations above 5500 feet in elevation. There, they can expect up to 8 inches of heavy, wet snowfall. There is also a winter storm warning in effect for the Northern Black Hills for elevations above 6000 feet. There, they can expect anywhere between 6 to 12 inches of heavy wet snow with this system. These alerts expire tomorrow at noon. Futurecast is showing the continuation of rain and snow across the area in multiple rounds over the next two days with snow showers more likely in the Black Hills and rain showers elsewhere. Overnight we are expecting those winds to really kick up with gusts exceeding 70 mph in some locations creating some dangerous winds. Rain and snow showers are also likely for some overnight. Tomorrow, the winds continue throughout the day with gusts exceeding 50 mph in some locations throughout a majority of the morning and afternoon. On and off rain showers are also expected during the entire day for Tuesday. The next three days in NE Wyoming and the Northern Hills shows that rain showers and even a few snow showers stick around through Thursday with temperatures falling to their coolest on Wednesday. Rapid City will see temperatures on the cooler side Wednesday with rain showers likely through Thursday. A few storms are possible Friday, but we dry out for the weekend with temperatures back into the 70s Saturday through Monday.
