RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Many of us remember the first time our parents took off the training wheels on our childhood bikes and it usually didn’t go so well. What if there was a different way?

Strider bikes offer an alternative to the usual training wheel step in bike riding by taking the peddles off their bikes.

The philosophy is that learning balance is the main obstacle to successfully riding a bike and removing the peddles allows children to focus on that first. Thursday, Strider Bikes is celebrating World Strider Day with an open house at their global headquarters in Rapid City.

The event offers bike owners and people interested in the hobby to stop by the building and see some of the bikes they have for sale as well as learn more about strider bikes in general.

“And this is our one day to bring our global community together primarily through a virtual event through social media through posting and tagging and we’ve got some great prizes going around that are available for everyone around the world,” Brent Kastner the Marketing Manager for Strider Bikes said.

Coming up in September, a strider bike race will be held at Main Street Square to show off the bikes.
