Man kills mother, 2 sisters on Mother’s Day; later gunned down by law enforcement in another state
RIDGELAND, Miss. (WLBT/Gray News) - A Mississippi man killed his mother and two sisters on Mother’s Day, according to authorities.
Ridgeland Police Chief Brian Myers said officers received a call about the triple homicide around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Officials said the victims were identified as 76-year-old Ida Thomas Welch, 56-year-old Vicky Renee Welch and 42-year-old Crystal Lynn Welch, WLBT reported.
An arrest warrant for Ivory James Welch III was obtained, and the U.S. Marshals Task Force began searching for him.
Authorities said he managed to travel to Arizona before being located by troopers, where he was killed in a shootout.
Crystal Welch was a member of the Mississippi ACLU Board of Directors since 2023.
ACLU MS Executive Director Jarvis Dortch remembers Crystal as an “enthusiastic leader” and a “great friend.”
“She was always asking what more she could do to support our team and our work. Our staff and board will forever be grateful for her commitment to equality and justice,” he said in a statement. “Her passion for life, infectious spirit, and enthusiasm will be missed.”
