Soldier, 23, dies in non-combat training accident at US Army post

FORT CARSON, Colo. (KKTV/Gray News) - Officials in Colorado say a soldier assigned to the Mountain Post at Fort Carson died in a non-combat-related training accident.

Lt. Zachary Galli, an explosive ordnance disposal officer from Virginia, died as a result of an accident during training at the Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort Carson officials said.

“It is with an extremely heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of 1st Lt. Zachary Galli,” said Col. Brennan Fitzgerald. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of the Galli family, the 749th EOD Co., and the greater EOD community.”

No further information was immediately made available about Galli’s death.

The soldier was 23 years old and received several awards during his nearly two years of service that included an Army Service Ribbon and a National Defense Service Medal.

The accident remains under investigation.
