(InvestigateTV) — More than 10 million people are victims of domestic violence each year in the United States.

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, about 20 people per minute are abused by an intimate partner.

It can happen to anyone regardless of race, gender, age, or socioeconomic status. One in four women and one in 10 men will experience it at some point in their lifetime.

Experts say community support can be key to breaking a cycle of abuse.

Reporter Heather Graf explains how a new push at the national level could make hair salons a potential safe haven for those in need.

If you work in the industry and want to learn more about free online domestic violence awareness training, go to shearhaventraining.org or you can check out the Professional Beauty Association’s ‘Cut It Out’ program at https://www.probeauty.org/cut-it-out/.

The hotline was started back in 1996 and has fielded more than seven million calls in the years since.
