Rapid City kicks off first day of summer with fountain opening
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - For many, Memorial Day weekend marks the start of summer. Rapid City declared today the official start of the season with its fountain opening celebration. The Rapid City community was invited to Main Street Square to officially welcome summer with a ribbon cutting, fountains and ice cream today.
Mayor Jason Salamun read an official proclamation declaring today the first day of summer and cut the ribbon to kick off the Main Street Square’s fountain season before families enjoyed yard games and a free scoop of ice cream from Silver Lining Creamery. He hopes events like this will encourage community members to spend their summer downtown.
“I just encourage everybody to make their way downtown this summer, there’s so much to enjoy down here and really when you are looking for some ice cream or to go out to dinner or to get a new vinyl record or buy a new outfit, whatever the case may be, there is so much downtown so take advantage of everything we have to offer,” Salamun said.
People can enjoy the fountains Tuesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
