RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - In the heart of downtown Rapid City, one business celebrates its 10-year anniversary.

In a location where businesses often come and go, the Tinder Box Cigar Lounge stands out for its stability and success. The cigar lounge is one of three cigar bars in South Dakota where you can still smoke indoors, and claims to be the only cigar lounge with a furry mascot.

Chris Johnson and Caroline Sharp opened Tinder Box Cigar Lounge in 2014 after seeing the store’s potential while on a date. One decade later, they are solidifying their venture’s status as one of the longest-standing businesses in the downtown area.

“It’s that downtown business life, which is not an easy life. You’ve got to be ready to work the tourist season, which means you’re open 7 days a week, or you should be if you want to be successful. You really, as an owner, have to be hands-on just so you get a feel for the tourists and your local community so you can cater to their needs,” Johnson said.

The Tinder Box Cigar Lounge, located at 518 7th Street, offers cigars, pipe tobacco, live entertainment, a full bar, and a relaxed environment.
