SD leaders respond to Trump’s conviction
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - On Thursday, Former President Donald Trump was convicted of all 34 counts in his New York hush money trial.
Update: Trump has vowed to appeal his conviction and his campaign announced that it had raised more than $34 million in the hours after the verdict, at one point even crashing the fundraising platform.
Trump’s sentencing hearing is set for July 11, just days before he’s expected to officially become the Republican presidential nominee.
On Friday Governor Kristi Noem appeared on a few network shows like Fox Business and CNN to share more of her thoughts on what she called a “Sham trial.”
“I question the process for how this trial was conducted by this judge, an activist judge who very much decided how he wanted this to come out, got exactly what he wanted and the prosecutors got what they wanted. They had this plan for a long time and they think it’s gonna work for them politically to benefit from it. And what they’re doing is undermining America and our foundation,” Gov. Noem said on CNN.
Congressman Dusty Johnson shared his thoughts on Friday, saying that the courts owe the American people a swift resolution of Trump’s appeal, and regardless of the outcome, Americans will decide the next president in November.

Previously: Gov. Kristi Noem, Sen. John Thune and Sen. Mike Rounds have responded to Trump’s conviction.
Gov. Noem stated that it was a wrongful conviction, alleging that the jury was stacked, the prosecutor was a radical leftist and the judge violated Trump’s constitutional rights.
Her full statement shared on social media is as follows:
“Massively conflicted, Biden donor and Liberal judge + stacked jury with unconstitutional jury instructions + radical leftist prosecutor = wrongful conviction. President Trump did nothing wrong, and even the liberal media knows it. The judge violated Trump’s constitutional rights and did everything in his power to get this outcome despite the clear evidence Trump was innocent. No doubt Trump will be easily vindicated soon as the case will obviously be overturned on appeal.”

Senator John Thune took to social media on Thursday to give his thoughts on Trump’s convictions, calling the case “politically motivated from the beginning.”
Senator Mike Rounds said he fears the verdict will further divide the country, sharing the following statement:
“This verdict probably helps former President Trump grow his support politically. The left is so disconnected from the pulse of America. They’ve underestimated the disgust with Washington, D.C., and the bureaucracy that is crushing families and the economy. Now, they’ve opened a Pandora’s box. A good portion of the country believes the only way to save our country is to swing back just as hard, with the same weaponization of the legal system and bureaucracy. As Americans, we are better than this. I pray we keep our wits and do it at the ballot box. Unfortunately, I fear this will only divide our country even further.”
