Monument Health’s 3rd annual Cancer Survivorship Event is being held Saturday
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - A cancer diagnosis can be an isolating event for the patient, even after treatment is over. But to prove they aren’t alone, Monument Health is holding its third annual cancer survivorship event.
Monument Health’s Cancer Care Institute hosts their 3rd annual Cancer Survivorship event on Saturday. This year’s theme: Strength and Courage take flight.
Event organizers said the event is an opportunity for survivors to connect with a community with shared experiences.
“Most cancer survivors don’t want to talk to their family about what they’re going through because they love their family and don’t want to burden them. So having events and giving the opportunity for survivors to get together, it allows people to realize that other people experience some of the same emotions and struggles that they may have,” Cancer Survivorship Event Co-Chair Doris Cardwell said.
The event is open to any and all cancer survivors, their friends, and family, and includes chair yoga, presentations by nutritionists, various cancer education booths, speeches from community members, and a bonus breast cancer Q&A panel.
This year’s keynote speaker, Jack Caudill, an anchor for KOTA Territory and KEVN Black Hills Fox, is excited to speak to fellow cancer survivors.
“I kinda like sharing my story right now and it’s really a chance to do that, and a chance for me I think to spread what I’m really kinda passionate about is trying to convince people to be screened and screened early,” Caudill said.
The event takes place Saturday at 9 a.m. and all proceeds from ticket sales go toward supporting future community education experiences.
