Showers, storms and May-like temps wait in the wings for your weekend
Slightly unseasonable weather, but not lasting for long
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - We have a lovely evening to start here tonight, but clouds will increase overnight to early morning hours for a shot at some isolated early-morning showers. Those showers have the best chance of getting together, especially in our southeastern counties (Oglala Lakota, Jackson & Bennett) where forecast data is more convincing.
After the front clears tomorrow morning, look forward to a refreshing feel to things - especially if you are a fan of more spring-like temperatures - as we expect that lower 70s will be pretty much area-wide, with the Black Hills popping up only into the upper 60s. Partly cloudy skies should dominate the afternoon and evening weather picture, making for some nice hiking, biking, and walks in the town looking for your favorite place to eat.
However, Sunday will be quite different as precipitation chances rise. Thankfully, a shower and even a chance for a rumble of thunder or two look too isolated and confined to the Black Hills & foothills and will only be brief, once overnight Sunday, and more around the afternoon on your Sunday.
Better chances for showers and storms arrive overnight Sunday into Monday when a low-pressure system swings into the region. We expect more of the area to be involved in this, but it should be clearing out of here by the afternoon or evening of Monday. Temperatures will still be more like the beginning of May area-wide, with mid to upper 60s in the foothills and flatlands & as low as 60 in the higher elevations such as in Deadwood & Hill City.
Tuesday onward will feature quite the rebound in temperatures with late June & early-July-like conditions. Expect upper-80s-by your Wednesday, with south-to-southeast winds bringing in the moisture for some renewed storm chances by the end of the week. Beyond that, we look to see the arrival of a dominant trough pattern to our west, leaving us on the warm and potentially stormy side around or after next weekend - Something we will continue to watch closely.
