Dusty Johnson attends VFW convention, addresses concerns
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - More than a week after Memorial Day, the VFW of South Dakota held its 94th state convention and Representative Dusty Johnson was at the event to address concerns veterans have.
Johnson, along with representatives from Senator John Thune and Senator Mike Rounds’ offices held a question and answer for veterans in attendance letting them speak up. Questions ranged from health care to the United States’ $34 trillion debt.
But Johnson says the concern he hears most from veterans is how the government plans on creating a stronger nation to compete against the world’s powers, particularly China.
“That’s not to say veterans don’t care about VA health care, of course they do. But overwhelmingly when I’m talking to veterans they want out country to be more fiscally responsible, they want us to secure the southern border and they want to make sure that we are competitive with China. They really care about and America that is strong and is prosperous and is free,” Johnson said.
Johnson added that veterans feel the need for a stronger America so the country can deter any aggression that might come if the country appeared weak. He believes if the world starts looking to China as the free world leader it will lead to more danger and less freedom for Americans.
