Storm chances lead to a warm-up at weekends end
Stronger and more widespread thunderstorms are possible Monday
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Throughout the weekend and into next week, there are numerous shower and storm chances. We start off with a nice evening out, albeit with cooler temperatures than yesterday evening. Clouds then build into the area overnight, with partly cloudy skies and the chance of a stray shower in the late night hours and into the early morning.
A few rounds of isolated showers and storms are possible throughout the day, starting with the leftover showers of the morning batch. Then, afternoon showers and isolated storms develop off of the northern Black Hills from Butte County into Perkins and Meade Counties around or after the noon hour. This activity is expected to remain localized and calm down into the evening.
Monday features arguably the best dynamics for thunderstorm development in the next three days. An impulse of lower pressure will have made its trek out of Canada into our neck of the woods, and in time for afternoon heating, sparks off scattered thunderstorms. A few of these will potentially produce isolated large hail and strong winds as they strengthen off the Black Hills and roll into our area. Things calm down quite rapidly on Monday evening as stable air works behind those storms.
Tuesday is a transition day into a much more summerlike situation, with lower to mid-80s becoming commonplace. A ridge of high pressure will become the more dominant force in local weather conditions, and it will keep temperatures like this going through the rest of the week. We are still watching a trough of low pressure forming out to our west that looks to slide closer to our region by next weekend. This could serve as our next opportunity to fire off storms - potentially strong - as we continue with above-average temperatures and even bring some added moisture to the region, adding a small touch of humidity to the air for these storms to work on. There is still a lot to iron out, but this is a persistent feature in our long-range weather. We will continue to keep you updated on any new developments.
