RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Many may not think of Hot Springs when considering the art centers of South Dakota but you may be surprised at how much of a community has formed around art in the small town. One business has a large hand in that and hosts regular events to encourage more people to join in.

The Chautauqua Artisans Market is situated at the edge of Hot Springs and serves as a hub for artists to display their work and connect with other artists. This business has been around since 2016 and since then, they have done a lot to try and get more people in their doors.

One idea is hosting regular classes held by artists that teach how to make various works of art. One example of a class happening this week is a Mandala painting course.

The Marketplace will be getting an upgrade soon as well. It will be moving down the road to a more centrally located spot in Hot Springs with a larger space and hopefully even more opportunities for future classes.

”Everybody likes to be able to learn something new and it’s a good way to introduce them to something. See if it’s a hobby they’d like to take up. We have a big retirement community here so we have a lot of people that are interested in learning new things,” Rhonda Kocourek the Treasurer for Chautauqua said.

The new location for Chautauqua will have a grand opening next month, for those looking for more information on the classes click here.
