Rapid City Earth Day Trail Challenge ends June 30

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Running out of good Father’s Day activity ideas? Well, you may be in luck. Two weeks remain for people to participate in the Rapid City Earth Day Trail Challenge.

The City’s Sustainability Committee hosts the Challenge every year, starting in 2021.

The objective is for participants to hike three local trails including Lower Dinosaur Loop, the Outdoor Campus West’s Nature Trail and the Lower Rim Black.

Hikers are encouraged to take a selfie in front of a “Rapid City Earth Day Trail Challenge” sign which is located at each trail.

“I love seeing people out enjoying nature. I think it’s really interesting, a lot of people don’t know how many trails we actually have in our community, especially on Skyline and M Hill. Everyone kind of knows the main trails but they don’t know how many different trails there are so that’s really fun,” said the City’s Project Development Manager of the Sustainability Committee.

After completing the challenge, hikers can present their selfies to the South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks’ Outdoor Campus West staff and receive a Rapid City Earth Day Pin. The building is located at 4130 Adventure Trail and people have until June 30 to complete the challenge.
