6 people, including 3 children, killed in massive house fire
NEWNAN, Ga. (WANF/Gray News) - A house fire Monday morning in Georgia claimed the lives of at least six people, including three children, authorities said.
Coweta County officials say at 4:57 a.m., the county’s fire rescue was dispatched to a residential fire with people possibly trapped on the 1300 block of Macedonia Road in Newnan. When fire crews arrived, the home was engulfed in flames.
Officials said the fire quickly spread through the home and into the attic.
The Coweta County coroner confirmed six of the 11 people inside the home died.
The children’s ages were 6, 12 and 13, the Associated Press reported. Authorities said the oldest victim was 70 years old.
“Despite life-saving efforts, six individuals succumbed to their injuries and are deceased,” county officials said in a statement.
The other five, some with serious injuries, were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.
A firefighter sustained minor injuries fighting the blaze, county officials said.
Coweta County Fire Rescue said it is working with the county fire marshal, the sheriff’s office, and the state fire marshal to determine the cause of the fire.
