RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - The second of the six teens on the Mitchell American Legion Baseball Team accused of rape changed his plea in court Monday afternoon.

18-year-old Peyton Mandel pleaded guilty to one felony count of accessory to a crime. Because of the nature of the crime, Mandel was required to complete a psychosexual evaluation which he completed.

In court today Mandel’s lawyer said his client’s role was minimal as he wrote the words “old wives tale” in a group chat after the incident alluding to the team coming together to conceal what happened and get their story straight.

Mandel could face up to five years in prison for his role in the incident. His sentencing is August 13th along with his teammate Lincoln Bates who also pleaded guilty to the same crime earlier this month.
