Rapid City man arrested after high speed chase
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - A Rapid City man was arrested this morning after a high-speed chase on I-90 near Sturgis.
Meade County Sheriff Pat West says the chase started on I-90 at mile marker 52 when a deputy tried to pull over a black Chevy Suburban, which was the target of a traffic complaint.
The suspect was later identified as Steven Frost of Rapid City.
West says he took off from the traffic stop in the westbound lane, saying Frost pulled off the Interstate and hit another car at Exit 32, continued along Junction Avenue, and struck the front of the Iron Horse Saloon.
The chase continued east of Sturgis, where, according to West, the suspect turned onto Fort Meade Way, crashed through a Pleasant Valley fence, and then re-entered I-90 eastbound at Exit 37.
Frost was finally stopped at Exit 48, where authorities used spike strips, and he exited the car as it started on fire.
West says there was a short chase on foot, but Frost was arrested. The incident is still under investigation, but there were no reported injuries.
