RCAS lunch, breakfast increasing for the 2024-2025 school year
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - School lunches will be more expensive for students and teachers for the 2024–2025 school year.
This decision was approved Tuesday by the Rapid City Area Schools Board of Education and will see an increase in both school breakfasts and lunches for the upcoming school year. This increase comes as food and supply costs increase nationwide, partly because of inflation, making it more expensive for school districts to obtain certain ingredients and supplies. The $.05 increase for Rapid City Area Schools will be seen at all grade levels.
”We are doing our best in terms of wrestling with increased costs both in the employee side and on the material side and being able to continue to offer a quality product to our students, and so that’s a difficult picture to try and pull together,” said Rapid City Area Schools chief financial and operations officer Coy Sasse.
The federal free and reduced lunch guidelines are not expected to change for the next school year.
