RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Restoring a building can be challenging and even more so when that building is 110 years old. The Homestake Opera House in Lead has a storied history, and it is undergoing its latest renovation period with plenty of live performances ahead this summer.

“We have finished the fire suppression and the alarm system has now been completely installed,” said Executive Director Todd Jones. “And we’re continuing that ongoing process for restoration.”

Next up for Jones and his team is reworking the building’s windows. Fundraising for opera house renovations has been successful so far but is still ongoing: Homestake Opera House has raised $3.5 million out of an $8 million goal.
