RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - The City of Deadwood announced people will be able to park their trailers just outside of town free of charge. The gravel lot is on the eastern side of Deadwood, off the south side of Highway 14A. A useful landmark is a large deposit of black rock on the hillside next to the lot.

Justin Lux is the parking and transportation director for the City of Deadwood, and he says the lot may be included in plans for public transportation.

“Later on in the summer, we may look at adding a trolley stop to that area as well,” Lux said. Though parking is free at the “slag pile” lot, the trolley requires a $2 fare.

The lot’s approximate location.

Finding parking in Deadwood can be challenging, especially on active nights with many visitors coming to town. Lux said this lot isn’t the best for people arriving by car, as downtown is a few miles away.
