FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA/Gray News) - A malnourished puppy found inside a porta-potty two months ago has found his forever home.

In April, a city employee found the pup, later named Louie, malnourished and neglected in the porta-potty and took him to Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control.

After a month in a foster home, FWACC announced Louie was ready to look for his forever home.

FWACC has kept their followers updated on the pup’s life, sharing with excitement the moment that Louie finally found a home.

While searching for Louie’s new family, the shelter looked for homes with older children to make the environment more predictable for him given his traumatic past. They also searched for homes with at least one other dog that could teach the porta-potty pup how to “dog.”

The shelter was able to connect Louie with Dawndi Cuney, who ended up being the perfect match, with her dog Georgia, who is also a rescue.

The shelter said Louie will continue learning and building confidence alongside his new dog sister.

Cuney says Louie is “a perfect angel” and his foster family has trained him well. She says she is grateful FWACC chose her to be Louie’s forever home.

While they do not know Louie’s exact birthday, Cuney says they will celebrate him on February 14th, in recognition of his heart-shaped nose.

In a Facebook post, FWACC shared their gratitude for the support shown for Louie.

“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who has shown your love and support for Louie and to those of you who have donated to our Angel Fund to help Louie and animals that need medical care just like him,” the post reads.

The shelter also extended its thanks to the foster family that cared for Louie while they searched for his forever home.

“We also want to extend a huge thank you to Louie’s amazing foster family for helping raise him in such a positive, safe place that allowed Louie to learn valuable skills and confidence that he can carry with him in his forever home,” the post reads.

Those interested in donating to FWACC’s “Angel Fund,” which provides them with funds for animal care, can do so here.
