4 dead, 10 injured after shooting at nightclub
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC/Gray News) - Four people were killed and 10 others were injured after a shooting at a nightclub in Birmingham, Alabama.
The Birmingham Police Department said officers reported to 27th Street North around 11:08 p.m. Saturday. Officers found multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds both inside and outside the nightclub.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services arrived and pronounced a man found on the sidewalk dead. He was later identified as 39-year-old Stevie McGhee.
Two women inside the nightclub were also found dead, according to authorities. They were identified as 42-year-old Markeisha Gettings and 56-year-old Angela Weatherspoon.
University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital staff pronounced another man dead. He was indentified as 24-year-old Lerandus Anderson.
According to Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald, at least 10 people are receiving treatment for gunshot wounds at UAB Hospital. Their conditions range from stable to critical.
Detectives are working to determine what led to the shooting. The preliminary investigation suggests there was a birthday party being held at the nightclub.
Police believe an altercation ensued inside the club. At some point after the altercation, at least one suspect drove by in a vehicle and fired shots from the street into the club.
Detectives are not sure if the shooting stemmed from the altercation.
No one is in custody at this time.
