Biden addresses nation on Trump shooting
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - President Joe Biden spoke from the Oval Office in a speech aimed at unifying the country Sunday night, one day after an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
Biden urged calm and unity in a speech aimed to lower the political temperature in a rare speech from the Oval Office.
“While we may disagree, we are not enemies. We’re neighbors. We’re friends, coworkers, citizens, and most importantly, we’re fellow Americans. We must stand together,” he said.
The president acknowledged that divisions exist in America but implored all citizens to resolve those differences peacefully.
“But in America, we resolve our differences at the ballot box. You know, that’s how we do it, at the ballot box, not with bullets. The power to change America should always rest in the hands of the people, not in the hands of a would-be assassin,” said Biden.
The president delivered his address a day before the start of the Republican National Convention. Former President Donald Trump’s campaign manager also urged attendees at the convention to tone down the political rhetoric.
