Trump rally assassination attempt follow-up
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - From the first to the final shot on Saturday, the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump lasted less than seven seconds. In that time, two people were killed including the shooter, two more were critically injured, and a Presidential candidate escaped an assassination attempt by mere centimeters.
Now, the FBI is tasked with figuring out how this would-be assassin got within firing distance of the former President, as emerging information claims several people tried to warn law enforcement that something was amiss.
As the dust settles from the chaotic scene in Butler Pennsylvania, the FBI is busy untangling a complicated web. “It’s still an active crime scene,” said Kevin Rojek, FBI special agent.
But the biggest question remains unanswered. How was this would-be assassin able to scale a nearby building carrying a rifle and get a clear shot to presumptive Republican nominee? That’s the question many are asking, including law enforcement expert Bobby Chacon.
“How was that rooftop not secured? When you look at the diagram, it’s the closest rooftop with a direct line of sight to the stage,” he said.
Now, Congress is stepping in. House Republicans announced they will hold a House Oversight Committee hearing regarding the Secret Service and other law enforcement’s handling of Saturday’s events.
“There are many questions that demand answers,” said Committee Chairman James Comer in a statement. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson also vowed to conduct a full investigation.
The White House is also seeking answers in the aftermath. President Joe Biden said, “I’ve ordered this investigation to be swift and thorough.”
What we do know is that the AK-47-style rifle belonged to the shooter’s father. The shooter had explosives in his car and his residence, located about an hour from the rally. More details will come to light in the upcoming days,
In the meantime, Donald Trump is still on track to appear at this week’s RNC convention in Milwaukee.
