Man rescued from bottom of 40-foot pipe says he has no idea how he got there

PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV/Gray News) – A man who was rescued after being stuck in a 40-foot pipe for hours says he has no idea how he got there.

The incident happened in northwest Portland.

At about 5:45 a.m. Friday, Portland Fire & Rescue crews responded to a report of a person stuck in a hole.

People in a nearby building heard a man calling for help and called 911.

Crews arrived at the scene and found the man at the bottom of a 40-foot ventilation pipe from a nearby parking garage. The pipe was only about a foot wide.

Crews were able to get the man out quickly.

Firefighters said the man told them he woke up at the bottom of the pipe and had no idea how he ended up there.

The man was taken to a local hospital to get checked out. Officials said he wasn’t seriously hurt.
