Woman fighting for her life after being attacked by 8 dogs while on a walk

PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV/Gray News) - A Portland mother of two is fighting for her life after she was attacked by a group of dogs.

Mytoka Petry was on a walk in the North Portland area earlier this week when eight dogs randomly attacked her.

Portland police said the attack happened near a homeless encampment and it turned into a chaotic scene.

Two people tried intervening, but they too were injured with one being sent to the hospital with serious injuries.

Julana Torres and Monica Estrada said they have known Petry for more than 30 years.

They said she has unfortunately lost an arm, an ear, and almost one of her eyes in the attack.

“She had a lot of brain bleeds. She had to have skin grafts for her face,” Estrada said.

Torres added, “When they have to re-bandage her it takes nearly four hours because it’s head to toe. There are bite marks, there are wounds all over her body.”

Petry has undergone multiple surgeries, and her friends said she remains in constant pain.

“It’s hard to go through all of the memories that you have with this person. It’s hard for you to go about your own day because it’s all you can think about,” Torres said. “How precious life is and how she’ll never be the same again.”

Petry’s two daughters haven’t left her side at the hospital.

Her friends and family said they want to see someone be held accountable for what happened.

“Who is regulating that there are packs of dogs in a homeless camp on the side of the road? Who’s going to be held accountable for that? Because this could’ve happened to anybody,” Estrada said.

The dogs involved in the attack are currently being held at Multnomah County Animal Services.

Police said they have not made any arrests yet, but their investigation remains ongoing.

Petry’s loved ones have started a GoFundMe to help her with her recovery.
